Ian Rapley Disowned
We’ve just come across the following blog of Peter Reynolds, who contacted Peverel following Ian Rapley’s comments on the BBC Breakfast program about the Carlex Group being a bunch of ‘Dribbling Geriatrics’.
Alledgedly, Peverel when asked to comment advised Mr Reynolds that they were disgusted by the way he behaved and in fact said that he is not part of their company, but part of their ‘owners’, Consensus Business Group.
Oh dear, looks like another boo boo by Peverel.
Wonder what effect his comments will have on share prices, bearing in mind that they look after the homes of over 57,000 ’dribbling geriatrics’, the same people that are fighting back!
Has anyone seen the P45 for Mr Ian Rapley???
More blogs are popping up criticising Ian Rapley’s ‘Dribbling Geriatrics’ comment and the latest blog is Paul Stokes’ who mentions that Peverel may well be featured again on the BBC Breakfast program tomorrow (20 November).

I’ve not seen the BBC Breakfast article yet, but if Mr, Rapley is referring to 57,000 people as “dribbling geriatrics”, then he has shown his utter contempt for this group of people. A group of people who live in Peverel-managed properties, and therefore ultimately are customers of Consensus Business Group. And, to a point, pay Mr. Rapley’s presumably considerable salary…???
This is not the first time Mr. Rapley has been the “public” face of Peverel / CBG on the TV. Whilst I think he should be sacked immediately for his disgraceful comments, perhaps he should be kept on and continue to front up for TV interviews, as he is proving to be rather good (bad for them…) at showing the world what Peverel / CBG are really like.
Comment from Mr. Tchenguiz perhaps…???
Failing that, perhaps “Andy” can confirm EXACTLY who Ian Rapley does work for – is he a direct Peverel employee, or is he directly employed by Consensus? Or another of the family companies…???

Hi all,
I wanted to respond to the recent blog post entitled “Will Peverel / Consensus Group Issue Us With A Comment?”
As you are aware, Solitaire is part of the Consensus Business Group (CBG), whose spokesperson was interviewed on BBC Breakfast this morning. CBG has provided the following statement, which has also been shared with the BBC:
Following this morning’s broadcast on BBC Breakfast concerning retirement homes regulation, Consensus Business Group would like to make the following statement:
Firstly, we would like to apologise unreservedly for any upset some specific comments may have caused. This was not the intention.
Secondly, we would also like to state that the points made by the programme have been listened to fully. We are conducting a comprehensive review of the issues raised, in conjunction with our trade associations. We continue to welcome all constructive contributions.
This review will be completed before the end of February 2010.
As I’m sure you can appreciate, I am not in a position to field any specific questions about the above; it’s important to reiterate that my role here is to help Solitaire customers resolve issues at their own development.
As always you can email me on andy.solitairepm@peverel.co.uk.
Many thanks,
Andy

Andy
As this review will not be completed until February 2010, does this mean that all Peverel Retirement Residents will not be asked to pay any fees during this period?
Afterall, if your company cannot provide a service of adequate standards and costs, pending the investigation – they should not be entitled to pay for them.

I’m pretty sure they’re a privately owned company so everyone who is rubbing their hands at the prospect of tumbling share prices after the comments are probably not going to see that come to fruition.
Also, I’m pretty sure the statement was that the tenants are not ‘dribbling geriatrics.’ Clearly these were a poor choice of words by a man with no PR training. However, they’re not really the significant point are they?

The reason they will not be punished by tumbling share prices is because they are not subject to free market competition. The other reason they are likely to get away with their antics is because they are not properly regulated.
When under fire the best they can do is shove an untrained man in front of the media. He then makes things worse by offending millions of our senior citizens by using the most insulting language.
I may well have missed something but I was not aware that Rapley is untrained in PR. I would appreciate it if Robert Zimmerman can let me know how he knows.

Having at least the first idea about PR myself, I am sure that anyone who would have experience in such matters would steer clear of language that has even the slightest chance of causing offence and instead focus on the defense of the issue.
Also, to be honest while what was said was certainly not right, I think it’s best to keep perspective. The main thing is that people pay acceptable rates for a good quality of services.
However, the market will always drive these costs up. When we go to the supermarket and purchase eggs or milk for example it’s not really a fair price that we pay but one that has been driven by a variety of factors. The bottom line often being what the supermarket thinks it can get away with. I would hope therefore that no elderly people are being ripped off and if that is the case that the law will be used to change things. That’s where pressure is needed.

It shows the Company is run by bullies, who show no common courtesy to the elderly, the nation “old gold”.
The Law must change to own The Development outright by the residents, who also have the right to hire or fire the management companies as any other contactor of the land.
It is a sheer disgrace that the leaseholders have to go through 6 Month or so to fight and then win the Right to Manage, which should be abolished.
Power to the leaseholders who I would like to see as
the new landlords /Communities/Association

Anyone who tries to defend Ian Rapley has not been bullied by his legal team which he uses if one has the stomach and support to take him to the LVT. So far he has been awarded £12,000 in legal costs which the residents will have to pay, and this was to get a reduction in a House Managers rent and to reclaim the income from the Guest Room which he took because we were allowed a £5,000 a year reduction in the House Managers flat rent. The only way he can reclaim his self respect is by repaying the money he has extorted from the many elderly pensioners he says are satisfied to believe his lies

So far as I am aware, Vincent Tchenguiz personally owns Consensus Business Group who in turn own Peverel. I understand that Mr Tchenguiz leveraged his purchase by issuing two billion pounds of bonds against the income from Peverel residents’ ground rents. His interest in the company appears to be purely financial, it is a form of asset stripping similar to that used by his brother, who came sadly unstuck on his venture when his commercial ground rent tenants defaulted. Dear Mr Tchenquiz,
I like to invite you to demonstrate how your staff incompetency has ruined my well being and financial loss.
Currently it appears I am the only one with hard evidence against your employees. Ask yourself how an Asian woman, 5 foot three and a half 62 years old managed to catch the experts at their act and forced them to fall into their own net of deceit and lies? Nicky did nothing except stand still and protest to stop the inappropriate testing and help her to restore the flat so it can be sold.
Let us get together so I might be able to show you how you can make money at the same time win back the popularity and do good deeds from the heart this time.
I am looking forward to meeting you.

To whom it may concern
We also have a lot of hard evidence against Peverel properties including photographic and fraudulent documentation, we have been complaining over the past three years.
Has anybody been overcharged recently? for up graded TV aerial, we were charge £4,900 plus other errors, so they say, everybody should be asking too see their annual bills, under our leases we are entitled, because they make a hell of a lot of so called errors.
Yours sincerely Mr Everitt
