STOP-PRESS!!
Last Exit for Peverel?
Peverel will no longer manage new developments on behalf of McCarthy & Stone from September 2010.Also,it seems unlikely that existing contracts will be renewed. One director has resigned.

Thanks Jon,
You are of course right. I can understand that poeple might be frightened of a debt collection agency. after all the purpose of a debt collection agency is to frighten people into paying. However, the law is on our side. The Agency must be licensed. Also, before any action is taken a court must rule that a debt is owed. Any attempt to obtain money that is in dispute that has not been sanctioned in court is illegal. If you receive such a threat you have thye option of the CAB,OFT or the police as it could be considered as demanding money with menaces.
As it happens i have not heard of anyone being taken to court by Peverel. If they were just imagine. peverel would say for example you owe £400. You would say you asked to see accounts, you asked for costs to be justified, you asked for work to be done properly you would say it's not just me, there are thousands of us with the same problems. you would show all the attempts made to get your problems resolved. You would show the threats from the collection agency. The court will find in your favour. That is why Peverel do not dare take anyone to court.
Finally, as i know that Peverel staff read this and i know those that worked for the old peverel actually did a decent job, i say this. It is my belief that you are sickened by the antics of the company you now work for. I feel sure that if you felt your future was not with Peverel and you were thinking of setting up a new management company it might be worth a thought to initiate informal contacts!

I heartily second your comments Michael. Let's see how CBG fare when their revenue streams start drying up one by one... and whether they'll respond by either improving their service or trying to tighten their grip. So far, experience suggests that CBG would rather pay to employ a debt collection agency than pay to put things right on our estates.

The rumours we have been hearing about property managers trying to dissuade residents from persuing Right To Manage would also point to the fight intensifying before it is won, but we must persevere.

All of us have a choice. We can post a comment about how peverel have treated us so badly, we can attack them. We can argue over a stunt like the satisfaction survey.
Or, we get it into our heads we have the power over peverel, not the other way round. It is the right of all of us to see proper accounts. It is the right of all of us to verify every item we are charged for. It is the right of all of us to withold payment until our concerns are satisfied. I stress i am not suggesting you refuse to pay, just that you delay payment pending your legitimate queries to be answered. If only 10 people on each estate does this, that is all it will take.
It is clear, that unlike the old peverel sensible discussion is useless. The only thing we can now do is rise up, do what i suggested and put an end to this company.
I would further remind you that we do have a legal right to manage, which is not dependent on blame but on our choice. It is our right to form a company on each of our estates to do this. The simplest way of doing this would be to employ a new management company. As it was said "sieze The Day" Take control Let 2010 be the end of peverel!
